Algae Buildup and Fountain Construction

A key element of our site plan is the construction of a fountain which is beneficial for many reasons to the park as a whole by serving as an eye catcher to both Newark residences and those who are unfamiliar with our city and its history while also displaying key facts of the park and its history like the year it was created.

In building the fountain it was crucial that we understand the waterline lines and how the piping system functions in order to supply our fountain. According to a study we observed, "Areas of standing water were noted during site visits conducted between September and December 2002 (Figure 18). Site visits occurred between 18-48 hours after rainfall of varying intensity. Standing water was noted during a majority of the site visits." This standing amount has tripled during the years and is detrimental to the growth of plants and trees in the nearby radius because rain collectively gathered in these spaces and that was a strong indication of the "sediment and suspended solids within the water."

Essentially, too much rain clutters within the marshland creating a cycle of overflowing nutrients that become too much for the water in the pond and causes the algae takeover.

As a result, we are creating a built in water cycle filter that draws power from the nearby marshland's water supply instead of the water piping surrounding the park and approaching a negative situation with a new opportunity and light.

Below you will find images of our imagined fountain from 3D shapes and construction as well as through brainstorm ideas using the source TinkerCad as well as a pdf that thoroughly detailing the pipeline structure and water currents.
